José Angel Isla Julian

Born in 1980, José Isla started the trombone at 10 years old. He then graduated with the highest honors from the Real Conservatorio Superio de Musica.

 

After graduating with a first prize in trombone in Claude Chevallier's studio and chamber music in Jens Macmanama's studio at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, José studied with renowned tombonists such as Branimir Slokar and Joseph Alessi.

 

A dedicated orchestra player, he performs with the most prestigious orchestras in Europe such as Opéra de Paris, Opéra de Valencia, Orchestra Mozart di Bologna, De Nederland Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Armin Jordan, and Claudio Abbado.

 

In 2004 he joins the Opéra Royal de Wallonie as Principal Bass Trombone, while maintaining an international career. In 2006 he is hand-picked to perform with the Verbier Festival Orchestra for an international tour around the globe with James Levine and Hernest Bloomsted.

 

José regularly gives recital and masterclasses in Spain's top conservatories. In 2013 he joins the Orchestre de Paris as Principal Bass Trombone.

 

Since May 2014, he is the Baas Trombone assistant teacher at his alma mater, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, and since Septembre 2019, Teacher at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon.

 

An avid chamber musician he is the founding member of Numskull Duo with Ricardo Molla Albero and of Made in Quartet, a trombone quartet he founded with David Rejano (Los Angeles Philharmonic), Jaume Gavilo (Dutch Radio Orchestra) and Ricardo Molla (Malaysian Philarmonic)
