Arnaldo de Felice

Graduated with full marks in composition (Roland Moser), music theory (Dorothé Schubart) and oboe at "Musikakademie der StadtBasel" (Switzerland). Maturity certificate.

He began his oboe studies at the age of 13 with Harold Gomberg, principal oboist of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and gave his first solo recital two years later.

In 1984, he became principal oboist of the Orchestra Sinfonica "Arturo Toscanini" in Parma, Italy.  

He graduated with top marks from the Conservatorio "G.B. Martini" in Bologna in 1986, after which he continued his studieswith Lothar Koch at the "Mozarteum" in Salzburg.

After November 1986, he held teaching positions at several ItalianMusic Conservatories. Since 1989 Arnaldo de Felice has beenprofessor of oboe at the "C. Monteverdi" Conservatory of Music in Bolzano.

As a soloist, De Felice has appeared at Carnegie Hall in New York, at the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, at the Tonhalle in Zurich, at the State Theatre in Nuremberg, at the Teatro Comunale in Modena and at the Teatro Farnese in Parma, in the Sala Verdi of the Società dei Concerti in Milan, at Ferrara Musica in the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, at the Accademia Filarmonica in Bologna, as well as in Bolzano at the Società dei Concerti, Fondazione Teatro Comunale in Bolzano, Auditorium Haydn in Bolzano.

He has recorded for ORF (Austrian Radio), RAI (Italian Radio), BR (Bavarian Radio), SDR2 (Swiss Radio) and Radio Belgium. 

 

De Felice was a member of the jury of the internationalcompetitions Young Musical Talents 2000 in Sofia, Bulgaria and the First International Audi-Mozart Competition I Fiati di Mozart in Rovereto.

 

In 2009/10 De Felice gave Masterclasses and performed at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, at the University of Music in Castellon, Spain, at the Conservatorio para los etudosSuperior de Musica de Aragon in Zaragoza, Spain, at the II International Orchestral Woodwind Meeting in Tatuí, Brazil, in Sao Paulo, in Rio de Janeiro at the Unirio Music University "Villa Lobos" and at the University of Music in Okinawa, Japan.

 

In collaboration with the Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Bolzano Arnaldo de Felice was founder of the Accademia Neue Music Bolzano in 2005 and its artistic director (2005-2009) as well as the ensemble's first oboist. With De Felice as artistic director, the Accademia Neue Musik Bolzano opened the International Festival of Contemporary Dance at the Venice Biennale in 2006 in collaboration with the renowned choreographer Ismael Ivo. Several concerts with the Società dei Concerti di Bolzano with composers such as Giacinto Scelsi, Isang Yun and Ligeti.  In January 2009 the Accademia Neue Musik Bolzano achieved greatinternational success with the Italian premiere of the opera Julie by the Belgian composer Philippe Boesmans with reviews in the major European magazines.

Arnaldo de Felice has been invited to give recitals at the Asian Double Reed Association (ADRA) Convention in Bangkok 2011 and in Taiwan 2013. In Taiwan he was also a member of the juryof the international oboe competition.

 

In July 2001 he won the first prize of the International Composition Competition "Teatro Minimo" of the Theatres"Opernhaus Zürich" and "Bayerische Staatsoper München" with a jury of very high institutional and artistic profile: Sir Peter Jonas, Alexander Pereira, Luciano Berio, Manfred Trojan, Zubin Metha, Franz Welser-Most, with his opera "Akumu" (demon's dream).

Following the premiere of "Akumu", the Munich State Opera, in the person of Sir Peter Jonas, appointed him composer in residence until 2006, and commissioned him to write the opera "Medusa", for which he also wrote the libretto.

In 2003, representing the Bayerische Staatsoper München, he participated with his chamber composition "Tre Canti" for the opening of the Pinakothek der Moderne (Ernst von Siemens-Auditorium) in Munich.

In 2006, the famous choreographer Ismael Ivo invited him to compose the music for the choreography of "Illuminata", whichopened the 2006 Dance Biennale in Venice.

In the years 2005 - 2009 he was the creator and director of the courses of the "Accademia Neue Musik Bolzano", which withinthe "Fondazione Teatro Comunale" of Bolzano, thanks to the support of the European Social Fund of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, will realise events such as the Italian premiere of "Quatre Chants pour franchir le Seuil" by Gérard Grisey, the musical portraits of Giacinto Scelsi and Isang Yun, with musicianssuch as Enrique Mazzola, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Stefan Vladar, Yves Savary, Robert Gander and Gianmaria Romanenghi.

November 2005 world premiere of the opera "Medusa", MunichState Opera;

"Beyond the Trees" concerto for cello and orchestra with the National Orchestra of Spain, under the baton of Kent Nagano, Madrid March 2014,  

"Riflessi, สะ อน...", for symphony orchestra, on the occasion of the celebration of 150 years of bilateral relations between Italyand Thailand, with "Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO)" Bangkok 2018, official commission of the Italian Embassy.

"Musica Concertante" for Oboe, bassoon and orchestra under the direction of conductor Andrew Manze with HelsingborgsSymfoniorkester in Helsingborg, Sweden, March 2018.

"Born of leaves and frost. Moss. Vento del bosco" for soprano, 3 horns, 2 trombones and 2 tubas, at Palazzo Gondi in Piazza della Signoria, Florence, a commission from "Italian Brass Week" of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the City of Florence for the Dante celebrations. Florence 5 August 2021.

15 February 2022 sees the premiere of Canti for alto and piano, atthe Berlin State Opera, with Marina Prundenskaja and Klaus Salmanns.
